About Post Horizon Booksellers

Post Horizon Booksellers - Select Second Hand Books and New BooksNow in our tenth year of business, Post Horizon Booksellers is an important part of Moose Jaw’s literary landscape, providing both select second hand books and new books.

Store owner and book lover Nelson Reid remembers the very first sale – a biography of John Wayne sold to a collector.  Since then, collectors have taken home many other treasures: one of three known copies of a late 1800’s Canadian cookbook, a first printing of Harmon’s exploration journal (a contemporary of Lewis and Clark), the catalogue of Canadian Pacific Steam Locomotives that went to Finland, and early Wizard of Oz editions that went home to . . . Kansas.

Another book that made its way home was a memoir of pioneer farming south of Moose Jaw. Found online by a customer in Vancouver, when Nelson mentioned the book was signed, she said, “I know. It was written by my grandmother and she signed them all. But there’s a new generation who never got a copy in her lifetime. This will be for one of them.”

Nelson Reid - Post Horizon Booksellers OwnerIt’s all about pairing people with the books they need, “like the serendipitous find of history books on the Soviet Era made during a family reunion here in Moose Jaw which helped a researcher complete her master’s thesis.”

Not everything is from the past though. New books are included in the collections too. “We have works by local authors and Saskatchewan writers, some in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Festival of Words held each summer in Moose Jaw. You might even bump into an author browsing the shelves.”

In a unique book selling relationship, Post Horizon Booksellers has paired with McNally Robinson in Saskatoon for new books, giving them a retail presence in Moose Jaw and providing customers access to their inventory.

Interior of Post Horizon BooksellersWhether it’s for research or relaxation, for you or your whole book club, collectible or contemporary, this is a bookstore that can keep you reading – at home and on the road.

All books are inventoried – those on store shelves as well as those listed online – for ease in finding specific titles or authors.  And if it is not available in the store, Nelson can find a copy as a member of the Advanced Book Exchange (ABEBooks.com), either in Canada or internationally.

Located in the heart of historic downtown Moose Jaw, the store is less than a block off Main Street and a short walk from Mosaic Place and the Mae Wilson Theatre. We provide a quiet space and a welcome invitation to browse our collections including over 21,000 titles.
